In my previous article I wrote a few things about the redesign of this website, which is now responsive. However, fluid design is only one step towards building mobile friendly websites (which was the initial goal of RWD) since the small screen is not the only “problem” of a smartphone. We must also cater for the limited memory (and storage space, both temporary and long term) and the slow CPU that -most of the time- is quite slower than even a cheap netbook. We need to further improve our sites and for starters, I decided to not load the right sidebar at all, if there is no space available for it.
Spring is here, time for a fresh theme! Visually, it's not that different from the previous one but it was made from scratch and not on top of some CSS framework. It is responsive -that's the current trend- and I have not built it for specific resolutions or widths but with adding a new breakpoint whenever the content didn't look “right”.
PGR Admin is a “skin” for the administration pages of WordPress. It overwrites various CSS styles and colors to -slightly- alter the appearance and adds a couple of settings for branding purposes, like the customizable logo above the main menu.
Translating my articles in English was something I wanted to do for a long time now. It is not an easy job and I'm not talking about the amount of written information, that -for better or worse- are not that much. Translating the articles is not enough since there are lots of other bits and pieces of text like categories, tags (not all of them are translated yet), menu items, personal information, contact form, website title and subtitle, dates and everything that I may forget. Here are some technical info about the task, in case you are thinking of doing the same.
As is obvious (to the few regular visitors at least), prince.gr was redesigned and -if I recall correctly- it is the 7th version from 2001, when I first uploaded a site on this domain. This redesign however is not a simple CSS refactoring, since it's the first complete theme for WordPress that I've built to sell at a marketplace!
